the artist

Bob Mitchell was born June 9th 1941 in a small mid western community of Morrison Illinois. His art career began in high school where he studied under artist Betty Hall. At the age of sixteen, the Morrison Art
Club honored him with an art scholarship to study in Monticello, Illinois under the guidance of the University of Illinois fine art department.  His first art career began prodigiously selling art work to local residents to fund his first cross-country trip to California. Nature has always inspired Bobs’ paintings. Now retired from designing furniture for the past forty years, he devotes his time to his family, photography and painting.

Bob received his formal art education from Kendall School of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While in Michigan, he studied under Michigan’s favorite artist Reynold Weidenaar. In 1985 Bob was honored by the school as one of the distinguished graduates.

Bobs’ ideas and his application of impressionistic principles are very important. He paints the moment and responds to what he sees. He is constantly developing new ways of painting  to get the effect he desires. He knows what he wants in each painting and fine tunes the composition and color until works.  Photographs are bold and detailed, while his paintings exhibit depth, clarity and excellent use of color. Bobs’ paintings are influenced by the natural surroundings of where he has lived, in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, and Florida’s Indian River County. The wide world begins at his back door and  everything he sees becomes art, moss draped oaks, tropical hibiscus, flowers, rivers, mountains, and misty hills, that speak of nature’s gifts. He carries a camera with him everywhere to capture his initial images. He brings it back to life with his digital paintings. He masterfully paints  with strong foreground elements with soft flowing backgrounds using his digital brush and palette.

The world of art has changed dramatically since the advent of digital painting . Bob did not know fifty one years ago at the age of 16 that he would be painting and mixing his paints on a computer.

Bob’s paintings are in private collections throughout the United States. His paintings have been in large demand as more people see his art. Bob is one of the leading artists using a digital paint brush and is enjoying the new digital media.
